2. I received several comments to yesterday's announcement of Mr. Volpe from members of our Group.
Please read:
1. This article is great news. However, do not forget that Liberals might be facing elections this summer. I will not believe their promises until I actually see the processing time change on the CIC website.
This promise is just that a promise, when election campaigning starts they will forget about us if we do not remind them. We strongly believe that we should go ahead with our action of protest on June 5th. Let's not allow Liberals, Conservatives and NDP forget about us!!! Let's make sure that no
matter who wins the next election they will have to address our problem.
18,000 admissions a year still means that backlog in Canada is 6 years. Add to that an average 2 years processing time at the local embassies and we are still looking at 6 years of waiting!!!
2. Dear Friends,
Most of you probably read today's papers and thought: «That's Great! Things are going to change! At last!» We wish it was true, we wish it could be possible to solve all our problems. But.........Unfortunately, despite the reason for optimism there are still many question marks remain:
1. Timing of this news shouldn't surprise anyone.Liberals understand they are in big trouble and try to gather themselves before potential crush at elections. They address crowds that normally give them support: immigrants and low-income layers. Don't be surprised to see some more money thrown at other typical liberal-voting publics in near future. They feel the pressure and try to get support from anyone who they
let down we are one of them. As a result we need to make sure that what's planned
for parents immigration by the government is not another political farce but real steps towards the solution of our problems.
2. In press release there is no information about application processing time. They speak about some obscure numbers 18000 a year. They want it to look good but what is it in reality? Number of applicationsa year or number of people processed? We don't know and they don't explain. Is it another attempt to confuse public to get support? We don't know.
3. Even if they are sincere about their effort how long is it going to take to resolve the backlog of more than 100000 applications only within the country? Speaking of 18000 a year means more than 5 years. Isn't it the same time frame they've been talking about since they stop processing?
4. What about a huge backlog in foreign countries were there are piles of unprocessed files? How long is it gonna take to take care of those?
As you can see there are more questions than answers in this situation. This all means for us one thing: WE NEED TO CONTINUE OUR STRUGGLE WHICH HAS TO BE FOR
PROCESSING TIME!!! NOT NUMBERS of application processed with absolutely no time fame commitment or whatsoever from government part. We need to re-organize and plan and focus our work towards a reasonable processing time resolution. What just
happened is a first step and we have to build on that to reach our goals.
3. I think, though it is still a news and may be a political move, but still it shows that our voice has been effective and that is what our objective was at this moment. the other thing is that all of us know that Liberals are in trouble now and that is what I suggested you guys a few days ago that this is the time to put pressure and get something if we are able to pressurize the Liberals. Though we have been able to convince Joe Volpe that solving this issue of Immigrant community will giv liberals a relief. Even we convinced him that that groups like Sponsor Your Parents have been able to motivate thousands of people like us and this strength is increasing day by day.
Anyway, I think Liberals have no option now and they need something to divert public attention from Scandal and definitely like to regain some strength of all the other aggrieved communities like ours.
